Where Wasted Spend Actually Hides in a Google Ads Account

TDTurquoise DigitalPPC & automation team

Most wasted spend does not announce itself. It hides in the reports people skim past. Here are the three places we check first on any Google Ads account.

1. Zero-conversion search terms

On one driver-training account, $3,166 burned across 403 zero-conversion search terms in a single month. A proper negative-keyword layer stops the bleed immediately, and a weekly search-term review keeps it from coming back.

2. Impression share lost to Ad Rank

36.5% of impressions lost to Ad Rank — not budget — means the money is there, but relevance and bids are not. That is a fixable quality problem, not a spending one: tighten ad groups, lift Quality Score, and align bids to intent.

3. Performance Max eating budget

Performance Max can quietly consume a fifth of your budget to produce a single call. Give it guardrails — asset-group structure, audience signals, and brand exclusions — or give the budget to the channel that actually converts.

Not sure where your budget is leaking? Book a free audit and we will map it out, or explore our Google Ads management.
